Biomass is the back marker of renewable energies, according to a study by French consultants of "SIA Conseil". This conclusion comes further to the analysis of the regulatory incentives granted to various renewable energy. As the photovoltaic and wind industries have been encouraged by very profitable tariffs, rates allocated to electricity produced from biomass are not sufficiently attractive for consumers, LaFranceAgricole.fr reported.
SIA stressed that the imbalance is even clearer as solar and wind projects are at low risk and generate few long-lasting jobs and benefits to the French trade balance.
As SIA Conseil focuses on the environmental goals of Grenelle, this paradox reaches its climax. Indeed, biomass should produce 17 TWh per year by 2020, against just 7 TWh of photovoltaics.
The study is published a few weeks before the launch of a tender for the Regulatory Commission (CRE) for biomass plants. SIA suggests that the Ministry of Ecology should transfer some of the financial efforts to the biomass industry starting from the next deadline.
