On occasion of the International Green Week in Berlin, the German Federation of the Organic Food Industry BOELW has published the latest market and production data on German organic farming.These preliminary data show:
- The overall turnover with organic products in Germany remained at the same level as in 2008 or even decreased slightly.
- The volume of organic products sold did, however, increase.
- Whereas the general retail trade and the discounters reported less sales of organic products than in 2008, the specialized organic retail trade grew by four percent.
- The total food market decreased by 2.4 percent, decrease was lower in the organic food market.
BOELW also presented the latest data on land managed by organic farms that are member of one of the associations that are part of the BOELW, Organic-World.net reported. The number of organic farms that are member of one of the associations that are part of the BOELW increased by six percent, and the organic land by 5.2 percent.
