The US Department for Agriculture (USDA) decided to grant new aids to the Organic Trade Association in order to "further enhance organic farming". Part of the fund has been granted to each State, and it is available only to the companies that are accredited by the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, the government scheme destined to eco-sustainable projects. To have access to these aids, producers must have the Organic Program certification, or at least they must prove to be about to switch to organic farming.
"The Organic Trade Association is glad for the support of USDA, which acknowledges organic farming as a environmentally friendly practice. OTA believes that this program of aids will further encourage farmers to employ this kind of practices, thus contributing to increase the US organic production and meet the consumers' growing demand" commented Christine Bushway, Executive Director of OTA.
