With the aim of improving consumers' knowledge about organic farming, over 25,000 copies of a handbook destined to consumers - titled "Know more about organic agriculture and live it" - were recently distributed by the Spanish Ministry for Environment, Rural Areas and Fisheries (MARM).The instruction booklet was received by eight Consumers Associations with which MARM maintains cooperation agreements, considering their possibility to reach a broad number of addressees, Ecoalimenta.com reports.
MARM is being developing the "Action Plan for the Promotion of Organic Farming 2007-2010", whose main objective is to promote domestic demand of organic produce through consumer information. Collaborating with consumer associations is therefore a greatly important strategy to achieve this objective.
The brochure provides the consumer with information on organic food product labelling, highlighting the entries of this type of production’s exclusive exploit. It also explains the general values of organic farming, its impact on the preservation of natural resources, improving animal breeding and the processing and distribution of these foods, providing also an overview of organics expansion in Spain.
