US sales of organic organic products (food and others), in 2008 accounted for 24.6 billion dollars, according to data released by OTA (Organic Trade Association), in a study that analyzed the US organic industry.The market highlighted by the Organic Industry Survey 2009 is a "sparkling" and growing one, and it has impressively risen by 17.1% over 2007. "Organic products represent a 'value' at the consumers' eyes" commented Christine Bushway, Executive Director of OTA.
The study, carried out on behalf of OTA by Lieberman Research Group, examined the sales of organic food and beverage, so as those categories such as natural textiles, cosmetics and beauty products, and animal food.
Food items registered a growth rate by 15.8% in 2008 with a turnover of 22.9 billion dollars, while for non food products sales grew by 39.4%, with a turnover of 1.648 billion dollars.
The market share for certified food now in USA is worth about 3.5% of the total volume.
