Europe's red light to labels with nutritional profiles

foo-labelThe European Parliament has opposed the introduction on food label of information about the better nutritional profile of a product based on the presence of fat, sugar and salt, and without regard to European food cultures.
The members of the European Commission for the Environment, Health and Food security voted in fact the amendment proposed by Renate Sommer to eliminate nutrient profiles from the legislation with which the EU is going to regulate food labels’s for consumers.

Nutrient profiles would restrict the possibility to put health messages on those foods that do not contain excessive levels of salts, fats and sugars.
