The guide of the world best extra virgin olive oils, Flos Olei 2010, includes the twenty best trademarks labels: nine are Italian, 5 Spanish.
Special mention for Portugal, Croatia, France and Slovenia, while the prize "Cristina Tiliacos" will be delivered to the Portuguese "Associação de Olivicultores de Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro".
Chile is also mentioned quite surprisingly, winning two awards including one for best quality/price value.
In Italy the Lazio region takes the lion's share: it is from Lazio the best monovarietal olive oil, intensely fruity by the Piscoianni farm in Sonnino. Additionally, a total of 35 awards have been granted to Latium: among these the organic farm Paola Orsini, organic farm Americo Quattrociocchi and organic farm Augusto Spagnoli.
"It has not been easy making a choice - says Marco Oreggia, editor and publisher of Flos Olei - as indeed many have been the noteworthy virgin olive oils this year. Personally, I am pleased to emphasize how the award winners come from different parts of world, to witness a growth on the production side. The awards we have allocated - Mark concludes Oreggia - confirm the role of international leaders that Italy and Spain still play. But it is "significant the growth of certain organizations, not only in the Mediterranean".
