Eight French companies and organisations from the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region in Northern France will be taking part from September 13-17 in Munich in the next IFAT ENTSORGA exhibition, a main trade fair for innovations, new developments and services in the fields of water, sewage, waste and raw materials management.Participating together in the French pavilion (hall C3, stand 213/314 and stand 501/9) under the banner "Northern France, the Environment is our Business", the companies will be exhibiting their latest innovations. Among these, the "CD2E" regional environmental cluster will be presenting the expertise and know-how of Northern French companies operating in the environmental field.
Benefiting fully from its long industrial tradition, the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region has had to deal with numerous ecological challenges. Currently, almost 600 environmental businesses offer products and services in sectors including waste, water and the air, green construction and renewable energy. More than 150 experimental ecological projects, financed by various regional bodies have been launched over the space of a decade, including both new projects and the restoration of existing facilities such as schools, social housing and municipal buildings. A database of environmentally friendly materials available for the construction sector has been created, and takes full account of the impact of these materials upon the environment or health. The region has more than 60 research centres with no fewer than 400 researchers. It is also the birthplace of the Centre National de Recherche sur les Sites et Sols Pollués (National Research Centre for polluted soils and sites), an expert in the investigation and classification of polluted sites and the treatment of ground and water pollution.
The CD2E cluster ("Creation et Développement des Eco-Entreprises" or the "Creation and Development of Environmental businesses), comprised of environmental experts and professionals, has played an active role in boosting the competitiveness and overall development of the region's key players in the environmental field. Apart from the assistance it provides in the creation of innovative, high added value environmental businesses, it coordinates European projects involving green construction. Additionally, it forges international partnerships aimed at boosting the capacity of environmental businesses, encouraging trade and dialogue and attracting foreign investment to the region.
