The Climate Committee of ICEA (Italian Institute for Ethical and Environmental Certification) announced the creation of the "Italian Roundtable on Organic Agriculture and Climate Change". Organic players, environmental and consumer organizations, public and private research organizations that are interested in participating in the activities of the board may submit their membership using the online form on www.icea.info.
The RoundTable will be officially launched in Bologna with a press conference on September 8.
Climate change is today the most important environmental problem to be addressed, explained ICEA in a note. Agriculture sector will be much affected by its effects, as small farmers, especially in developing countries, represent the most vulnerable group.
The global reach of the phenomenon requires the development of initiatives both on the national and international level, with the active participation of various stakeholders willing to share objectives, strategies and resources.
ICEA, in line with this vision, already promoted in 2009 with FAO, FiBL (CH), ICROFS (DK), IFOAM, KRAV (SE), Organic Federation of Australia, Rodale Institute (USA) and Soil Association (UK), the establishment of the Roundtable on Organic Agriculture and Climate Change (RTOACC), an international initiative that is joined by the newly born Italian Round Table.
